Abhishek Banerjee Announce Indefinite Sit-In at Raj Bhavan, Says Will Stay Till Governor Meets Him Subtitle: Trinamul General Secretary Protests Over MGNREGS Wages, Says Governor Has 'Jomidari (Feudal) Mentality'

Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of Trinamul, announced on Thursday that he would hold a "indefinite sit-in" in front of Raj Bhavan until governor C.V. Ananda Bose returned, met with a Trinamul-led delegation, and responded to inquiries regarding the long-overdue wages of MGNREGS job cardholders in Bengal.

Even by the turbulent standards of Bengali politics, the ruling party organizing a "indefinite demonstration" in front of Raj Bhavan is exceptional.

"Until the governor meets with our delegation and pays attention to us, we will maintain this peaceful demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan. We will maintain a nonviolent dharna. After a three-hour demonstration outside Raj Bhavan, which was preceded by an hour-and-a-half-long march of the thousands that he led from Rabindra Sadan, Abhishek declared, "I will spend the night here, I will not leave this dais.

According to a group of Trinamul leaders, Abhishek's protests in Delhi and Calcutta calling for the release of central debts owed to Bengal took on greater significance because the 35-year-old MP is acting alone due to Mamata Banerjee's compelled absence due to illness.

"Our youthful leader has begun circling the governor after the two-day protest in Delhi. Bose should request that the Narendra Modi administration at least pay Bengal's past-due MGNREGS wages since he is the state's constitutional head of state, according to a top Trinamul lawmaker.

Thousands of people marched over three kilometers on Thursday from Rabindra Sadan to Raj Bhavan.

Senior party leaders and elected officials congregated on a stage that was erected up in front of the north gate.

The news that Abhishek will remain there indefinitely surprised some people, including within Trinamul.

Bose took a flight from Delhi to north Bengal to assess the flood-like situation there before flying back to the capital.

Workers for Trinamul presented him with black flags in front of the state guesthouse in Siliguri.

The governor might return to Calcutta on Saturday, according to a source in Raj Bhavan, but he is not expected to do so on Friday.

"We requested his nomination in a letter to the governor on Wednesday. Our MP Derek O'Brien sent him an email to set up an appointment after we received no response. It's interesting that the governor asked us to meet with him in north Bengal. We had no issues. But because he left Siliguri before 4pm, he requested a two- to three-hour notice to arrive in north Bengal. Our demonstration is in opposition to this jomidari (feudal) mentality, added Abhishek.

In a memo to Raj Bhavan, a Trinamul team requested a meeting with Bose after his return.

"Trinamul mounted an attack on the Constitution itself and its pillars," claimed Samik Bhattacharya, the state chief spokesperson for the BJP.
