Locals Protest Demanding Action Against Police Officers Involved in Accident
An officer reported that after a police vehicle struck two senior people—including a woman—in West Bengal's Malda district, two children were hurt and two elderly people died. The incident led to protests from the local community.
According to Chanchal Sub-Divisional Officer Souvik Mukherjee, the tragedy occurred in Sitalpur hamlet on Saturday when a police squad went there to look into a case. Their car struck four villagers before crashing into a house.
According to him, Danisha Bewa, 62, and Sk Mohammed, 60, passed away while being transported to Malda Medical College and Hospital.
He said that Chanchal Superspeciality Hospital treated the two kids.
The police vehicle's driver was allegedly intoxicated, and the locals launched protests demanding that the police officers implicated in the collision face swift consequences.
