'Yodha' Opens Slow at Box Office, Outperforms 'Bastar: The Naxal Story'; 'Shaitaan' Continues Strong Run

Yodha, starring Sidharth Malhotra, had a modest opening day gross of Rs 4.25 crore at the box office on Friday, according to data-tracking firm Sacnilk.

However, Bastar: The Naxal Story, directed by Adah Sharma, was greatly outperformed by the patriotic action thriller backed by Karan Johar, earning a mere Rs 50 lakh on its opening day.

Pushkar Ojha and Sagar Ambre's Yodha, which stars Malhotra opposite Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna, had a mediocre total occupancy of 13.86 percent on its opening day despite the film's star-studded ensemble. The percentage of occupancy in large metropolitan areas such as Delhi-NCR and Mumbai was 15.5% and 14.25%, respectively.

Yodha, however, had to contend with fierce competition from the Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan horror-thriller Shaitaan. The Vikas Bahl-directed supernatural thriller, which is currently in its second week, made an astonishing Rs 4.5 crore nett on its eighth day, taking its total domestic revenue to an astounding Rs 84.25 crore nett. The movie has earned more than Rs 115.25 crore globally.

In Yodha, Sidharth Malhotra plays Arun Katiyal, a commando in the elite Yodha task group. Terrorists hijacking a plane gives Arun a second chance at atonement after the task force is dissolved following an unsuccessful mission. Shaitaan, on the other hand, centers on Kabir (Ajay Devgn), who must contend with a stranger (R. Madhavan) who has used dark magic to seize possession of Kabir's daughter.
