AAP Protests Sanjay Singh's Arrest in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Mumbai

On Thursday, a significant number of AAP members demonstrated against MP Sanjay Singh's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Mumbai.

In the liquor policy case, a Delhi court on Thursday sentenced Singh to five days in ED detention. The MP said in court that the organization responsible for turning former defendant and booze dealer Dinesh Arora into a prosecution witness who has since implicated him was framing him.

Police in the capital used force to scatter AAP supporters who were trying to get over the barriers and protest at the BJP Central Office. The demonstration was attended by all of the Delhi ministers, elected officials (aside from chief executive Arvind Kejriwal), and party office holders.

Party members were detained in Mumbai after refusing to let the authorities put an end to their protest. A wave of AAP cadres wearing yellow turbans were scattered in Chandigarh by the deployment of water cannons. Nearly other state capitals had smaller demonstrations.

Singh was the party's primary point of contact with other parties, an AAP source told The Telegraph. If bail is postponed, Raghav Chadha (a Rajya Sabha MP) has said he can replace Sanjayji on the INDIA bloc's campaign committee. The party also wants to give Saurabh Bharadwaj, a minister in Delhi, a national position in inter-party communication. This, however, is not a top priority right now.

Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister, and now Singh would make it difficult for the party to maintain its base and defend its territory in the Lok Sabha elections in the following year. Singh's tenure as an MP expires in January, thus the AAP would need to find a replacement if he were to stay in jail like Sisodia.

Kejriwal reminded the media that no agency had managed to retrieve even a single rupee connected to the purported booze scandal. Sanjay Singh is currently this nation's most vocal opponent of Modi's corruption. We'll see how many corruption cases surface tomorrow when their government is gone and they are under investigation, he said.

"Modiji could not stand this, so first he had him expelled from the House of Representatives, and now this," Kejriwal continued. He is angry over the INDIA alliance, and before 2024, more people will be detained, I promise you that.

Eight months passed between the controversial liquor policy's implementation and its withdrawal in July of last year, when lieutenant governor V.K. Saxena requested a CBI investigation.

Singh was quoted by PTI as having said in the Rouse Avenue court of Special Judge M.K. Nagpal: "Sir, (co-accused) Amit Arora gave tens of statements, Dinesh Arora made multiple statements, but they did not remember my name. They didn't forget my name because I'm not that obscure. They've just remembered something. There is no distinct law. I received not a single summons. Why is the law different for me?

He refuted the ED's assertion that Dinesh Arora had given him Rs 2 crore.
