Aparna Sen Documentary "Parama" Premieres at Rotterdam Film Festival
Suman Ghosh Explores Life and Art of Renowned Indian Actress-Director
The next documentary from director Suman Ghosh, titled Parama: A Journey with Aparna Sen, will receive its international debut in January 2024 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the director said on social media on Tuesday.
The famous actor-director biopic, according to Ghosh, has particular meaning for him for a number of reasons. "First and foremost, the excitement of creating a movie about someone I really love and admire. as a person and a director. In the modern world, such a person is uncommon. I wanted to investigate her and learn more about her culture as a result," he said on Instagram.
The director said that he will be bringing one of his films to the esteemed Dutch film festival for the first time. "In my fifteen years of filmmaking, I have never been able to really understand Rotterdam. I've attended a lot of other prestigious film festivals, but I've always believed Rotterdam is a difficult one to get into. The major reason I'm happy I entered such a prestigious film festival is that I may have been able to create something that may appeal to a wide audience. I see my topic that way," he said.

Despite having previously directed Sen in his 2019 film Basu Paribar, which also starred the late Soumitra Chatterjee, Ghosh found it difficult to create Parama: A Journey. "I was forced to avoid interacting with Rina di...My goal was to remain impartial. I like spending lengthy addas at Rina di's and Kalyan da's house. Anyway, I can finally go back to her now that my self-imposed embargo has over," he said.
Kabuliwala, the most recent film directed by Suman Ghosh, stars Mithun Chakraborty. The film, which is based on a Rabindranath Tagore short tale, will open in theaters on December 22.
