Mob Violence in Calcutta: Second Lynching in Two Days Raises Alarms

Salt Lake, Calcutta - June 29, 2024: A tragic occurrence occurred on Saturday when a 22-year-old man was suspected of stealing a cell phone and was lynched in the Salt Lake suburb of Calcutta. After the mob attack, the victim, named as Prasen Mandal, passed away from his wounds.

In just two days, there have been two lynchings of this kind in Calcutta. Following the lynching of another guy in the city center on Friday, who was only identified by his first name, Irshad, police captured about fifteen individuals. It was also suspected that Irshad, who worked at a TV repair business near Chandni Chowk, was a cell phone thief.

According to police officials, three people have been taken into custody in relation to the event that happened in Salt Lake. Authorities are still looking for and apprehending further attackers as the investigation is still ongoing.

"This occurrence is really regrettable. In response to the most recent murder, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "It would seem that law and order is slipping out of the administration's grip."

Residents and politicians are outraged and concerned by the recent lynchings, which emphasizes the urgent need for action to stop such acts and uphold the rule of law. To stop mob justice and advance community safety, authorities are urging greater public knowledge and vigilance.

The local government is under increasing pressure to address the root causes of these violent crimes and rebuild public trust in the justice system as the investigations go on.
