On the second day of the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), Australia was introduced as the Special Feature Country and Oscar-winning Australian director Bruce Beresford stole the show. At the Nandan event were Australian consul-general in Kolkata Rowan Ainsworth and screenwriter and filmmaker Rolf de Heer.

Three categories of carefully chosen Australian film will be available at the 29th KIFF. This includes horror movies like Wolf Creek, Sissy, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and 100 Bloody Acres, as well as well-known modern movies like The Dry, Sweet As, and Shayda.

Beresford, whose movie Driving Miss Daisy (1989) won the Best Picture Oscar, expressed his excitement about KIFF's global reach. "There is a special bond formed by the warmth and passion of Indian audiences and the universal language of film. He remarked, "I'm excited to spread the magic of Australian cinema to a thriving community that genuinely values the craft of storytelling.

Rolf de Heer emphasized how film is a universal language and has the ability to cross boundaries. The Kolkata International Film Festival is a celebration of this common language, offering a platform for a wide range of audiences to find a place in their hearts for films from numerous nations. I find it delightful that Kolkata is now home to a diverse range of Australian storytelling. I think people will accept and engage with their differences," he remarked.

"The decision to designate Australia as the Special Focus Country highlights our common goal of promoting cross-cultural understanding and fortifying relationships via the medium of storytelling," Ainsworth stated.
