Boat Capsizes in Rupnarayan River: Five Missing, Rescue Operations Underway

In the Howrah district of West Bengal, a boat capsized in the Rupnarayan river, leaving five persons missing, according to authorities.

Nineteen individuals from the districts of Howrah, Belgachia, Shibpur, and Bagnan went on a picnic at Tribeni Park in Daspur, Paschim Medinipur. On Thursday night, while they were making their way home, the boat overturned in the middle of the river.

Several boats raced to the scene upon hearing the cries, saving as many people as they could, according to the authorities.

However, they said that five persons could not be found and that a search was in progress.

District Magistrate Dipapriya P of Howrah said that two disaster management teams and civil defense workers were sent to the scene of the accident upon notification.

The rescue efforts were under way, according to Swati Bhangalia, superintendent of police.

Officials said that some of the rescued were sent to adjacent medical facilities.
