A fifty-year-old man's body was discovered in a trolley bag next to a New Town drain, crammed full.

The corpse was discovered early on Saturday morning behind Karigori Bhavan, around two kilometers from the Unitech bus stop on Major Arterial Road.

The man has been identified as Subodh Sarkar, a resident of Belgharia, a leased neighborhood on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, according to a senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate.

People walking past and a few van pullers noticed blood seeping from a bag that had been thrown next to the drain early on Saturday morning.

They called the cops right away.

Teams from the police stations in Techno City and New Town arrived at the location.

The primary portion of the suitcase was locked, according to the authorities. The body was placed inside when they broke the lock.

"We noticed blood on the bag and a faint smell coming from it," a police officer at the scene stated.

Sarkar suffered a brain injury, according to Manav Singhal, the deputy commissioner of police for New Town.

"A murder investigation has been launched. Based on preliminary investigations, it appears that the body was disposed of shortly after Sarkar's death. In relation to this case, we are interviewing two people," Singhal stated.

About three months ago, according to a senior Bidhannagar commissionerate officer, Sarkar moved into his rented home in Belgharia.

The detective stated that Sarkar had told his landlord that he had lived most of his life in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where he had owned a printing press.

"Sarkar informed his landlord that he had completed his business in Bhubaneswar and intended to relocate here while accepting the house on rent. The officer stated, "A woman who claimed to be Sarkar's relative used to stay with him as well.

The police officer added that a man from Patashpur, which is around 150 kilometers from Kolkata, was taken into custody by the police hours after the body was discovered.

Up until late on Saturday, questions were being asked of the man and the lady who used to reside with Sarkar.

Up until late on Saturday, no arrests had been made in this case.

In order to determine the precise reason and time of Sarkar's death, his body was taken to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. Additionally, the cops are looking through local CCTV material.

Following the recovery of the body, all police stations in the state were notified, according to a senior officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate.

Subsequently, Patashpur alerted the police that a male customer in a taxi had paid the driver to transport him to the city and then to New Town, where he dumped a trolley bag in an abandoned location. The taxi driver had pulled up next to one of the police checkposts.

Joint commissioner Badana Varun Chandra Sekhar of the Bidhannagar commissionerate headquarters stated, "They detained the passenger immediately."
