Congress launches statewide campaign to highlight BJP's failure to implement women's reservation

The Modi administration's "reservation" for women in Parliament and legislatures may not be implemented for another ten years or more, according to a statewide campaign launched by the Congress to show how empty the policy is.

In 21 press conferences held in various state capitals, the party explained to the public how the prime minister had disregarded the rights of women and was claiming credit for actions he had not taken. Female leaders spoke at every media conference. They claimed that Modi's pledge to empower women was nothing more than a lie, just like his promises of two crore jobs annually, Rs 15 lakh in everyone's accounts, and bullet trains.

They gave specifics regarding superfluous requirements like the census and delimitation, claiming that Modi devised ruses to postpone implementation because the RSS-BJP is not philosophically dedicated to the empowerment of women.

They remembered how the Congress always fought for gender equality, granting women the right to vote straight away after the country's independence and providing 33% of the panchayati raj seats for women.

They emphasized how the Modi government overcame political opposition and legal obstacles to pass the laws they fervently desired. However, they decided against giving women reservations right away because the RSS is anti-feminist and they planned to utilize this important reform simply as a political ploy.
