The world football governing body announced on Monday that Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) who is accused of sexual assault in Spain, has been barred from all football-related activities for a period of three years.

After Rubiales allegedly kissed Spain's Jenni Hermoso without consent after the Women's World Cup final on August 20, Fifa initially suspended him provisionally for three months on August 26.

The Spanish High Court is looking into allegations of coercion and sexual assault against Rubiales after Hermoso filed a criminal complaint.

"After determining that Luis Rubiales violated article 13 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code, the Fifa Disciplinary Committee has banned him... from all football-related activities at national and international levels for three years," Fifa said in a statement on Monday.

Because of Fifa's ruling, Rubiales, 46, is no longer eligible to run for the RFEF presidency or general assembly under the new sports federation election system that Spain's National Sports Council (CSD) unveiled last month.
