Gram Panchayat Leader, Followers Accused of Attacking Village in Malda District

Following a fight over a football game between two locations, the head of a gram panchayat in Malda district, which is ruled by the Trinamul Congress, and his followers are accused of attacking a hamlet on Sunday night.

To express their disapproval of the assault on their hamlet, Pransagar people blocked the Chanchal-Ashapur state route for four hours on Monday.

According to sources, on October 14, there was a football match between the villages of Pransagar and Nimtala. Both villages are located in Chanchal 1 block's Kaligram Gram Panchayat.

"During the game, there was a disagreement, and the fans of the two sides got into a brawl. A source said that elderly people interfered and got the situation under control.

The Nimtala team received the support of the Kaligram panchayat leader, Rezaul Khan.

Khan and his goons are said to have assaulted Pransagar on Sunday night. "They threw gasoline bombs at burning stores." Pransagar is around 70 miles from Malda town. "The attackers also ransacked a house and fled the village," claimed Shahazan Sheikh.

Within an hour, fire engines arrived in the settlement and put out the flames.

Another resident of Pransagar, Nurul Islam, said that Khan had previously carried out similar acts.

Residents of Pransagar began obstructing the Chanchal-Ashapur state route on Monday morning around five in the morning in protest over the assault.

"How is Rezaul Khan going to use explosives against us? The cops are mute; why? Islam said that they need to act against him right now.

There was a disruption in the highway traffic. When Chanchal police arrived on the scene, they convinced the protesters to move aside by promising to look into their complaint and take legal action.

About nine in the morning, the barricade was removed.

Khan denied the accusations. "During the football game, several Pransagar village people attacked my brother Imran. He is receiving treated for his terrible injuries. These days, such individuals are attempting to discredit me by making false accusations against me, Khan said.

Both parties had complained, according to the police.

"An investigation has been launched. According to a police official, "We are also taking the necessary actions to maintain law and order in the village and surrounding areas."
