Jalpaiguri Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident Involving Police Car

In Jalpaiguri, a 35-year-old man was killed on Sunday morning after he was hit by a police car on NH27.

Residents in the area organized a barricade, claiming that the police car's driver and other passengers were indifferent.

In the early hours of the morning, Shyamal Roy, a resident of Fog Line, Mundabusty, a neighborhood outside of Jalpaiguri town, was riding his bicycle to Sirishtala in the town to pick up his daughter after her private tutoring.

In Subhashnagar, he was waiting for traffic to stop so he could cross the road while holding his bicycle next to NH27.

According to local accounts, the guy was hit by an SUV with a police emblem on it and slumped down on the road, moaning in agony.

He was taken to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital by onlookers who raced to aid, where the medical staff declared him dead.

The operator of a tea stand off the highway, Samaru Roy, claimed to have seen the collision.

"The car abruptly struck the guy while he was standing by the side of the road with his bicycle. The driver of the car accelerated away from the scene of the collision rather than stopping to assist the individual who had fallen on the road. "There were additional individuals within the car as well," said Samaru.

Residents who were upset over the tragedy stopped the roadway when word got out.

How is it that the police officers can be so indifferent? Another local, Dulal Roy, stated, "Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee frequently requests that the police act in a humanitarian manner, but the police vehicle didn't bother to stop and rush the man to the hospital."

The obstruction caused traffic to stop on the roadway. When Kotwali police arrived, they talked with the demonstrators. Senior police officials also promised the grieving family any assistance imaginable, including Samir Pal, deputy superintendent of police (headquarters).

It was an official police car. The motorist is facing the necessary consequences, and legal action will be taken. Tomorrow (Monday), the victim's family has been invited to our office. Pal promised to take the necessary steps to ensure that the family received recompense.

After an hour, the blockage was lifted in response to his guarantee.

Shyamal, who is survived by his father, wife, and two kids, was a daily-rated worker by profession, according to reports.

He was our family's only source of income. Father Ramesh Roy expressed his sorrow, saying, "I would implore senior police officers to ensure that our family survives after his unexpected death."
