In the trailer for Netflix's sci-fi thriller Atlas, released on Wednesday, Jennifer Lopez's data analyst flies a futuristic robot into orbit to capture a renegade machine in order to save the Earth from impending danger.

The one-minute, 47-second film, which is set in a futuristic and high-tech environment, introduces Lopez's Atlas Shepherd as a "brilliant but misanthropic data analyst" who is sent to a far-off planet to protect humanity from robotic and artificial intelligence threats. She quickly learns, though, that trusting artificial intelligence is the only way to protect Earth from it.

The teaser opens with Atlas about to lose consciousness from the robot she was controlling colliding with the earth. In the events that follow, a group of human-controlled robots engage in combat with adversaries in the midst of massive explosions.

In fast-paced action sequences, Lopez can be seen panting excessively while destroying enemy machines while seated in the cockpit of a mech. At the conclusion, Atlas's robot crashes into a snow-covered area, trapping her there.

"Atlas Shepherd (Lopez), a data analyst with a strong mistrust of artificial intelligence and brilliance, embarks on a mission to apprehend a rogue robot that she shares an enigmatic past with. According to Netflix's official film summary, "But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it."

Mark Strong, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory J. Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and San Andreas director Brad Peyton are among the cast members of Atlas.

In the Netflix thriller The Mother from the previous year, Lopez portrayed an assassin who was on the run from hostile attackers in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. In the Niki Caro-directed movie, Lopez's character, going under the code name "The Mother," comes out of hiding to save her daughter, whom she had abandoned earlier in life.

Written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, Atlas is billed as a "galaxy-spanning adventure." On May 24, the science fiction thriller movie will make its Netflix debut.
