Actress Olivia Munn Reveals Battle with Breast Cancer: Advocates for Early Detection and Support

Actress Olivia Munn revealed on social media that she has been battling breast cancer for the last year. The 43-year-old actress, who has been in films such as Magic Mike and X-Men: Apocalypse, shared her tale on Instagram, stressing the value of early detection and thanking everyone for their support.

With images from her hospital bed and with her medical team, Munn shared on social media, writing, "I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration, and support on their own journey."

Munn disclosed that she was diagnosed a year ago. Over the last ten months, a number of surgical procedures have been performed, including a double mastectomy. Munn remained positive in spite of her struggles, hoping to encourage and comfort those going through same struggles.

The actress said that receiving the cancer diagnosis was unexpected, particularly considering that prior testing had revealed no cancer genes and that a normal mammography had revealed nothing. But in the end, her doctor's proactive move to carry out a risk assessment resulted in the identification of an aggressive kind of breast cancer.

"One day I was feeling great, and the next I woke up in a hospital bed following a ten-hour surgery." I'm fortunate. Munn continued, expressing gratitude to her doctors for saving her life, saying, "We caught it with enough time that I had options."

"When I'm feeling energetic, when I can get dressed and leave the house, when I can take my little boy to the park, that's when I tend to let people see me." I have not disclosed the diagnosis, the anxiety, the recuperation, the pain medication, or the paper gowns. Regarding her decision to eventually tell the world about the news, she wrote, "I needed to catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing."

Munn said that her partner, comedian John Mulaney, "was there before I went into each surgery and was there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes," and that this unwavering support gave her strength during this physical and emotional struggle. Malcolm, Munn and Mulaney's kid, was born in late 2021.

On Sunday, Munn and Mulaney were spotted together on the Oscars red carpet.
