Jewelers' house burgled in Alipurduar, India

Monday morning, police said, burglars stole into a jeweler's home in the north Bengali district of Alipurduar and made off with cash and gold valued at Rs 4 lakh.

The jeweler and his family were away from home celebrating Chhath Puja, therefore the house was empty.

The jeweler Santosh Kumar, who lives in Jaigaon's Bhagat Singh Nagar, has lodged a complaint with the local police station.

The boundary between India and Bhutan is the Alipurduar district.

According to sources, Kumar had performed Puja at the Torsha bank with his family.

"We discovered that the door locks were broken when we got home. As soon as we were inside, we discovered that thieves had gotten into our home and stolen money and gold decorations. The jeweler remarked, "I hope the police recover the stolen items. I have informed them."

Kumar claimed in his complaint that three lakh rupees' worth of gold jewelry and one lakh rupees in cash had been taken.

A police officer stated, "We suspect the miscreants had knowledge that the house would be vacant early in the morning."

He claimed that criminals have exploited the BHutan border in a number of prior incidents of a similar nature to get into the nation.
