Jharkhand school students sick after eating food with lizard

A lizard was allegedly discovered in the food served to a student on Wednesday evening at a residential private English-medium school in the Pakur region of Jharkhand, causing over 100 students to experience nausea and vomiting.

Mrityunjay Barnwal, the deputy commissioner for Pakur, verified the event but stated that all the kids are safe.

"Students at the private residential school (Sidhu Kanhu Memorial English School) in Pakuria block of Pakur district reported feeling unwell on Wednesday after learning that a pupil had allegedly discovered a lizard in their plate during dinner.

Some patients were sent to the Pakur government hospital, while others were taken urgently to the nearby Bengal government hospital. The majority of the pupils were released from the hospital on Thursday, and all of the students are stable, according to Barnwal.

The deputy commissioner also disclosed that a two-person team, made up of food safety officer Dhaneshwar Hembrom and district superintendent of education Mukul Raj, had been tasked with investigating the incident, submitting a report within 48 hours, and gathering food samples from the hostel for testing to determine what caused the food poisoning.

Over 80 kids were rushed to the government medical hospital in Rampurhat in the neighboring Birbhum district of Bengal, while nearly 42 students were admitted to the community health center in the primary health of the Pakuria block.

None of the students, according to Pakur civil surgeon Dr. Mantu Kumar Tekriwal, had a serious disease.

"No significant illness affected any of the students. However, due to their complaints of nausea and vomiting, they were placed under surveillance in the hospital. Although we did not notice any of them throwing up while they were in the hospital, they were let go on Thursday morning, according to Dr. Tekriwal.
