Samarth was a prolific actor and director at the height of Indian film's popularity. Her first feature film was "Nigahe Nafrat" in 1935. She then starred in several films, including "Bharat Milap" (1942) and "Ram Rajya" (1943), where she portrayed Sita. Additionally, she introduced her children Tanuja and Nutan to the world of movies.
Tanuja's daughter Kajol posted on Instagram a 1944 magazine cover that showed her grandma as Sita along with a statement about how far ahead of her time she was.
