On the fourth day of the second Test, New Zealand defeated South Africa by seven wickets, thanks to an undefeated century from Kane Williamson, and secured their first-ever series victory against the Proteas.

The majority of South Africa's best players were competing in the SA20 competition back home, leaving them badly depleted. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to penetrate far enough down the home batting order, and the hosts prevailed 2-0.

In what was a record fourth-innings run chase in a Test at Seddon Park, Williamson's patient 133, his 32nd Test century, primarily came in a partnership of 152 with Will Young (60 not out) that brought the Black Caps over the finish line.

Tim Southee, the captain of New Zealand, described the Test match as "a pretty old-fashioned sort of ding-dong."

"Kane, like he has done for so many years, played an absolute blinder tonight, while Youngy provided excellent support.”

Quick scores: 235 & 242 for SA. NZ 211 & 269/3 (Will Young 60 not out, Kane Williamson 133 not out). New Zealand won by seven wickets.
