Man stabbed to death in Kolkata

On Wednesday morning in Thakurpukur's Silpara neighborhood, a guy who was riding a two-wheeler home after dropping off his sister at a bus station was stopped and fatally stabbed with a sharp object.

Police reported that 26-year-old Animesh Kumar Singh was attacked about 8am.

"The neighborhood inhabitants informed us about the murder. Singh passed away at SSKM Hospital after being taken there, according to a senior Thakurpukur police official.

"We have detained a person for questioning based on the description provided by some of the bystanders and based on the CCTV camera footage collected from the area," the officer continued.

On his motorcycle, a local attempted to pursue the culprit.

"The suspect, who was sporting a yellow T-shirt, sprinted down a small passageway that was inaccessible to the two-wheeler. A man who lives close to the scene of Singh's murder claimed that the man then vanished in the direction of Bhattacharjee-Para, which is behind the murder scene.

"Our neighborhood is peaceful. Nobody in this country can fathom such an assault, he said.

According to the police, Singh, who worked for a private company on Hyde Road, frequently dropped off his sister at the bus stop with his two-wheeler.

The officer stated that "the assassin obviously was aware of his target's daily routine." The route where Singh was attacked was not crowded because it was still early in the day.

The suspect in the murder was picked up in the nearby town of Mansatala.

"I received a call informing me that my brother met with an accident," Singh's sister stated. I learned that he was killed by a knife after I got home.
