Leading Congressman Rahul Gandhi began the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' on Wednesday in the Assamese area of Barpeta with a roadshow.

On the seventh day of his Yatra in Assam, Gandhi began with a roadshow from Barpeta town to the New Bus Terminal, where he would address the people, after his overnight stop at Bishnupur.

Seated on the roof of a sports utility vehicle, he observed the town's major thoroughfares as it gently rolled past a throng of people waving the national flag, the flags of the Congress party, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY), and other opposition parties including the CPI(M).

Gandhi was given bundles of Assamese (or Gamocha) scarves as well as other ethnic scarves by the people.

The Congress MP will continue the Yatra in his specially adorned bus, departing from the Barpeta New Bus Stand.

"Then a padyatra will start from Harmohan Chakravarty Memorial Girls ME School in Abhayapuri to Abhayapuri College, followed by a public address," according to a Congress leader.

He will once again continue the Yatra by automobile to Chalbana hamlet in the Dhubri district and give a speech at a public gathering after his morning stop at North Salmara point in Bongaigaon.

Gandhi would spend the night at Gauripur before continuing on with his journey.
