Railway Traffic Resumes After Kanchenjunga Express Collision in Darjeeling
Although the accident-hit track was restored, the trains were moving at a snail’s pace.

Tuesday morning saw the return of rail travel on the down track in the Darjeeling district between Rangapani and Chatterhat stations, following a goods train collision that occurred 23 hours earlier on the Agartala-Sealdah Kanchenjunga Express.

Around 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday, officials with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced that the track was open for traffic.

At 10:42 a.m., the first passenger train crossed the down track. Yesterday at roughly 5.40 p.m., traffic on the up line had resumed, according to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De.

Despite the restoration of the accident-damaged track, the trains were going slowly. Thus, on Tuesday, the NFR canceled five trains. They are the Siliguri-Jogbani Intercity Express, the Shatabdi Express between NJP and Howrah, and the Intercity Express between Siliguri Junction and Katihar.

According to NFR authorities, three more trains that ran on Wednesday between the Northeast and north Bengal were canceled. De stated, "Three other trains, including a Rajdhani Express, were diverted through the NJP-Siliguri Junction-Aluabari Road route and two long-distance express trains from the Northeast have been rescheduled."
