Rekha Patra, Face of Sandeshkhali Resistance, Overwhelmed in Emotional Speech as BJP Basirhat Candidate

The face of the Sandeshkhali resistance and the BJP's Basirhat candidate, Rekha Patra, broke down during her first address to a crowd of more than 6,000 supporters on Friday.

"I couldn't find the right words. Will everyone help me out? As the 28-year-old housewife received the microphone from Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari in a field close to Basirhat Court on Friday, Patra begged with tearful eyes.

Her face broke into tears as hundreds of others said, "Yes, we are with you," in unison.

As part of her first outdoor campaign, Patra and Adhikari marched on Friday, covering around 4 kilometers from Maitrabagan to the Boardghat neighborhood of Basirhat.

It was her first public meeting on Friday, even though she began her campaign on her home ground of Sandeshkhali on Wednesday by seeing some of her fellow warriors.

The migrant worker's wife from Sandeshkhali expressed her happiness at seeing so many people come together in support of her before promising to use all of her might to stand with the Basirhat community.

I'm not sure how to express my gratitude. However, I'm happy to be here right now. In order to protect our moms and sisters from shame, I need your help. I can be with those ladies who endured horrors if you are with me. She concluded her brief remarks by saying, "I, as your younger sister, vowed to stand by you in your time of need," before sobbing in the arms of a female BJP politician on the dais.

When the BJP revealed Patra's name as the party's Basirhat candidate on March 24, she immediately rose to prominence in Bengali politics. Patra was among the first to file a complaint against the detained Trinamul strongman Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates.

Rekha needs some time to adjust to her sudden rise to prominence in politics, according to a BJP official in Sandeshkhali, since she has no political experience.

When she received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she was in complete shock. We're hoping that she'll pick things up quickly. As a candidate for the Lok Sabha, she has already mastered the art of responding to inquiries from media and public speaking," he said.

There were a lot of ladies at the roadshow, according to a source.

The march's leader, Adhikari, said that the BJP will exact retribution on Sandeshkhali for the crimes during the Lok Sabha elections.
