Trinamul Accuses BJP Candidate of Violating Model Code of Conduct in Malda North

On Friday, the Trinamul leadership in Malda accused Khagen Murmu, the BJP candidate for Malda North, of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) and filed a new complaint against him with the state's chief electoral officer (CEO) and police.

In the last twenty-four hours, the Bengali governing party has filed a complaint against Murmu twice.

According to Asis Kundu, the district spokesman for Trinamul, some graffiti and festoons placed in favor of Murmu suggest that the state government's monthly assistance to women under the Laxmir Bhandar program would rise to 3,000 rupees if the BJP is elected to power in the state.

"You cannot entice people with promises of financial incentives while running for office. It has been done in a clear way by the BJP. We believe the Malda North BJP candidate orchestrated the campaign. He can't avoid his responsibilities, and in our opinion, there has been a flagrant MCC breach, said Kundu.

Currently, women in the general category earn 500 rupees per month, while women in the scheduled caste and scheduled tribal categories receive 1,000 rupees per month.

The general group will get Rs 1,000 per month starting in April, while the other categories will receive Rs 1,200.

Kundu complained to the CEO on Thursday, claiming that Murmu had leveled an unfounded accusation against Prasun Banerjee, the Trinamul candidate running for the seat.

Murmu had claimed that Banerjee, a former IPS officer, had met at a luxury hotel in Malda with top police personnel.

Trinamul has included pictures of festoons and graffiti where a pledge to expand help was made in Friday's lawsuit.

A BJP official named Paritosh Choudhury said that nothing new had been stated in posters and other forms of propaganda that were shown before to the polls. Elections in Malda are scheduled on May 7.

"The support will be increased to 3,000 rupees per month if the Bharatiya Janata Party wins power in Bengal," said party leader Suvendu Adhikari. All the campaign has done is reaffirm it," he added.

Trinamul has also forwarded a copy of the complaint to the district police chief and filed a complaint at the Malda police station.

Kundu said, "We want such graffiti to be wiped and festoons to be removed."
