Trinamul Congress Reaffirms Support for Mahua Moitra

On Monday, the Trinamul Congress reaffirmed its support for Mahua Moitra, the party's MP for Krishnanagar, after a proposal that she be removed from the Lok Sabha due to the "cash-for-query" incident. Abhishek Banerjee made this announcement.

"Mahua Moitra is able to fight her own battles, on her own," the national general secretary of Trinamul told reporters at the airport in Calcutta.

He said, "The party is united and it is evident to the public. The party supports her on this matter."

Abhishek had said on November 9 that he "feels this decision by the national government... ... based on what I've seen in the ethics committee report, they recommend that she be the subject of an inquiry.

"Why has an expulsion been suggested if you have nothing against Mahua and it is the topic of an investigation? He said, "I think Mahua is capable of fighting her own fights.

The BJP's Vinod Kumar Sonkar led the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which had turned in its report that Moitra be removed for taking "illegal gratifications" for asking questions in the House.

Moitra referred to the ruling as the "death of parliamentary democracy" and characterized it as a "prefixed match by a kangaroo court."

Abhishek also mentioned the supposed persecution he and his family had from central investigation authorities on Monday, in relation to Moitra.

"The ED and the CBI are harassing my family and myself. persecuted, along with my parents and wife. In the last several years, my wife and I had attended the agencies a total of twelve times. Each person must wage their own wars. He said, "The party is with them." ED-CBI is what double-engine signifies.

In addition, he addressed rumors that there was a falling out between him and his aunt, Mamata Banerjee, over a supposed struggle for dominance between the party's "old guard," which she represents, and the new guard, which he represents.

"There is no separation between myself and other people. Just one show (on November 23) has eluded me. A few people have voiced their thoughts. It is alright," he remarked, alluding to conflicting remarks made in the previous few days by Dum Dum MP Saugata Roy, who was seen as a member of the old guard, and Trinamul's state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, who was seen to represent the Abhishek "side."

"On November 23, at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, the picture of the chairperson, Mamata, was present," he said.

When asked about the divisive topic of deciding on an age limit for the celebration, Abhishek once again endorsed the idea.

"Because of their combat expertise, veteran commanders are vital to any party. But as they get older, their productivity does tend to decline a little," Abhishek said on Monday, defying his aunt's stated belief once more—which she emphasized even on November 23.

He then on, "I think there should be an age limit in every field, from politics to sports."

According to a Trinamul source, the chief minister isn't ready to lose sleep over Abhishek's disapproval just yet.
