Safety Drive Launched After Ammonia Leak at Cold Storage in Jalpaiguri

The Jalpaiguri district administration, in response to the ammonia leak at a cold storage unit that resulted in a worker's death on Saturday, will begin an inspection campaign of all the district's cold storages on Tuesday.

To create a plan for the effort, senior administration officials met on Monday with representatives from various state departments and wings, such as agricultural marketing, labor, and the district industrial center.

"A group of authorities and specialists will tour the district's cold storage facilities to verify that all safety precautions are taken. They will ascertain whether the relevant storage units' authorities are abiding by the established standards and guidelines. The action has been done to prevent any unfortunate incidence in the future, according to Jalpaiguri's assistant district magistrate (development), Pushpak Roy.

The district has twenty-two cold storage facilities.

According to administration insiders, the inspection team will check to see if the cold storage facilities are equipped with competent emergency workers and fire licenses.

Additionally, according to Roy, cold storage unit owners will be the recipients of safety training.

The owners of the cold storage units that surround the district headquarters will be present at a seminar we are planning on Tuesday in the outskirts of Jalpaiguri. We will inform them about the safety precautions there. Additionally, the official announced that a second seminar will be held on March 14 for people who own cold storage units in the Mainaguri and Dhupguri blocks.

A maintenance worker was killed on Saturday, and the ammonia leak event at the cold storage required the hospitalization of two of his coworkers and a firefighter.
