Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi Has License Temporarily Revoked After Patient's Death

The Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Amethi, which is maintained by a trust overseen by the Nehru-Gandhi family, has had its license "temporarily" revoked by the Yogi Adityanath administration due to the death of a female patient.

The hospital administration's carelessness resulted in the death of a woman, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak told reporters in Lucknow on Thursday. "While an investigation is ongoing, we have revoked the hospital's license and closed it."

Pathak did not specify who would lead the investigation or how long it would run, but on Wednesday, a senior district health official gave the investigation a three-month deadline.

Ajay Rai, the head of the state Congress, claimed there was a "vendetta against the Congress" and referred to the move against the hospital as "illegal" because it was taken before an investigation was complete.

On September 14, Divya Shukla, 22, the wife of Amethi resident Anuj Shukla, was admitted to the hospital for a stomach-related procedure. Three days later, she passed away, supposedly from an overdose of anesthesia.

Rahul Gandhi is listed as one of the trust's members, and Sonia Gandhi is listed as its chairperson on the hospital's website. On Thursday, hospital staff members started a dharna on the premises.
