Mohammed Shami celebrates the wicket of New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell on Sunday.

Any player finds it challenging to see the action from the sidelines, and Mohammed Shami is no exception.

Although he didn't play in the first four games of this World Cup, the pace-bowling mainstay, who gave a stellar effort against New Zealand, claimed he always felt like a member of the team.

When Shami was included in the starting lineup on Sunday against New Zealand, he produced outstanding statistics of 5/54 and was essential to the home team's four-wicket victory.

I was sitting on the bench and observing everything. Only when I get the opportunity will I act. It is incredibly challenging when you aren't playing. However, Shami stated in the post-game press conference, "I don't think you should feel bad sitting outside if your team is performing and your players are moving in a rhythm.

"You are a member of the group and the World Cup as well. I believe everyone should celebrate each other's achievements.

The 33-year-old fast bowler claimed that he never gave up while watching from the sidelines and that he always maintained a positive outlook.

"I personally keep things straightforward; you should keep having fun. Cricket is the most popular sport in India. The area where you are sitting is the largest.

"It's not required to be in the starting XI. 15 players are present. Four of them must remain outside. So, I think you'll achieve better achievements by being upbeat and having fun," Shami added.

I always tell myself, "I'll be here tomorrow even if I'm not here today. If not today, then the following day. You must contribute to the team when your turn arrives.
