Shivam Dube, who hit an unbeaten 63 off 32 balls in the second ODI against Afghanistan in Indore on Sunday.

With his clutch shots in the current Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan, Shivam Dube has taken center stage. Calling it "a gift from God," Dube acknowledges that he still needs to improve in order to become a fully fledged cricket player.

Dube is clearly skilled against spin, but he struggles against pace and bounce. Dube has scored back-to-back fifty in magnificent fashion against Afghanistan, who have a respectable spin attack.

"It brings me joy to continuously enhance my performance as I progress. God gave me the range, and I've put a lot of work into it. Dube said to JioCinema, "I am getting runs on the board and I have developed many areas of my game."

As India chased down a target of 173 with as many as 26 balls remaining, Dube hammered four towering sixes and five fours his route to his undefeated 63 off 32 balls in the second Twenty20 International here on Sunday.

Though the T20 World Cup is far off, Dube has trained himself to live in the now. "I have given the future a lot of thought in the past. But I now realize that I must pay attention to the here and now. I find that developing my skills is more vital because I have to concentrate on that. I simply make an effort to remain grounded and to concentrate on my tasks.

He needs to get better at batting against short deliveries that are bowled quickly. "I put a lot of effort into it. I was able to dominate any bowler in domestic cricket, but it was difficult to do so in the Indian Premier League since bowlers were hitting over 140 km/h.

"I worked with side arms a lot, but my focus was more on my mindset."

When asked about the strategies he's used that have produced a noticeable improvement, he responded, "I always had this game in me, so this credit goes to Mahibhai (MS Dhoni) and Chennai Super Kings."

"They have enhanced my best qualities. They have consistently shown me support and expressed their belief in me. Mike Hussey and Stephen Fleming, my coaches, have believed in me.

In order to become a better finisher, he also attempts to mold himself into the Dhoni mold. "I am moving toward what I have long observed Mahibhai do. The 30-year-old stated, "I have to maintain my composure and simply concentrate on one ball at a time.
