Stimac Announces Second Probables List for India's World Cup Qualifiers
Sandesh Jhingan

Prior to the Fifa World Cup 2026 preliminary joint-qualification Round 2 matches against Kuwait and Qatar, head coach of the Indian senior men's team, Igor Stimac, released his second list of 15 probables for the Bhubaneswar camp on Tuesday. Sandesh Jhingan, an injured central defender, was not included in this list.

Last Saturday, the initial probables list was made public.

Important defender Jhingan was left off the list after injuring his right knee during India's Asian Cup group match against Syria earlier in January.

On May 10, the 26 players on the initial list will go to the capital of Odisha to start their training.

On May 15, the 15 players from the second list—who are players from Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Mumbai City FC, two teams that competed in the ISL Cup final—will report to camp.

The national camp will feature 41 players in total. In their final two Group A games, India will play Kuwait at the Salt Lake Stadium on June 6 and then travel to play Qatar on June 11.

India has played four matches and presently holds the second position in the group with four points. The top two teams in the group will advance to the third stage of the Fifa World Cup Qualifications and guarantee a spot in the Saudi Arabian 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
