Sunil Gavaskar Predicts Yashasvi Jaiswal's Test Breakthrough in England Series

The great Sunil Gavaskar believes that young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal might solidify his spot in the Indian Test team during the next five-Test series against England at home.

The former captain feels that the 20-year-old could express himself more freely on the Indian fields than he could on the hard, bounce-filled ones in South Africa.

The last Test series that India played was in South Africa.

"There would be changes to the home pitches." Yashasvi is a young player, but the wickets in South Africa were difficult because of additional bounce, even for seasoned hitters, Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Nonetheless, there is a perception that he will establish himself on the Indian tracks given the strategy he used in Centurion and even in the West Indies.

"A left-hander is required in the starting lineup. He's going to solidify his place on the Test side in this series, but I can't tell for sure.

Jaiswal made his longest-format debut in the West Indies last year. In seven Test innings, he has amassed 316 runs at an average of 45.14, including a century and a half.

Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, said he will always treasure Shubman Gill's No. 3 batting position and described it as a big responsibility.

In South Africa, Gill struggled at number three, scoring only 74 runs in four innings. But according to Pathan, Gill is in the right zone and has the appropriate attitude, therefore he should do well on the Indian wickets.

He will treasure this wonderful part for the rest of his life. Given his ease throughout the South African pitches, it seems like he's in his element.

"He may not have scored highly in South Africa, but he will probably maintain the momentum and do a respectable job of capitalizing on the Indian pitches," Pathan said.

Paperwork conundrums

Hyderabad: Before England's five-Test series against India begins on Thursday, uncapped off-spinner Shoaib Bashir of England will have to remain in the United Arab Emirates due to a delay in paperwork.

The 20-year-old Bashir, whose parents are from Pakistan, was abandoned after an England training camp in Abu Dhabi came to an end.

Bashir is being accompanied by Stuart Hooper, who just became the ECB's new managing director of cricket operations, according to ESPNCricinfo.

Brendon McCullum, the head coach of England's red-ball team, has said that the ECB has brought up the matter with the appropriate authorities and anticipates a resolution within the next day.
