Three Detained in Connection with Gang Rape of Spanish Tourist in Jharkhand
Victim and Husband Were Camping in Dumka District When Assault Occurred
A court on Sunday placed three people under judicial custody who had been detained in relation to the gang rape of a Spanish tourist in Jharkhand's Dumka district.
The Spanish lady was spending the night in a tent with her husband when she was reportedly gang-raped on Friday in Kurumahat in the Hansdiha police station area, around 300 kilometers from Ranchi, the state capital, according to police.
They added that her statement was recorded in accordance with Section 164 of the CrPC.
Superintendent of Police Pitamber Singh Kherwar stated during a news conference that the victim had a medical test that verified the rape.
He said that three of the seven persons thought to have been engaged in the crime had already been put to prison, and the other four would shortly be apprehended.
"Searches are in on for the other four accused, who have been named. They're going to be caught shortly," he remarked.
According to Kherwar, the police have communication with the Spanish Embassy located in New Delhi.
"They are being kept informed about the developments," he said.
The SP said, "Legal procedures are underway," when asked when the couple planned to leave Jharkhand. We'll inform you about this later. The lady, who was around 28, and her 64-year-old husband rode two motorbikes from Bangladesh to Dumka, and then they traveled via Bihar to reach Nepal.
Mamta Kumari, a member of the National Commission for Women, met the survivor as well.
She referred to the occurrence as regrettable and said that it revealed Jharkhand's state of law and order.
"All the accused involved in the crime should be arrested at the earliest and stringent action should be ensured," she said.
