TMC protests at Raj Bhavan enter third day, to continue till Governor meets them at protest site
Governor to meet TMC delegation in Darjeeling on Saturday
The TMC activists' indefinite sit-in protest outside Raj Bhavan, led by senior leader Abhishek Banerjee, entered its third day. Protesters said they would continue to stir until Governor C V Ananda Bose met them at the protest site, even though a group of agitators will meet with him in Darjeeling on Saturday.
After receiving a request through email from TMC leader Derek O'Brien, Bose reportedly agreed to see the group in Darjeeling's Governor Mansion at 5.30 pm, according to Raj Bhavan officials.
After Banerjee's TMC-led sit-in demanding that the Centre release West Bengal's MGNREGA debt and provide her an audience with Bose, the governor decided to meet with the delegation.
However, according to Banerjee, the TMC's national general secretary, the commotion would continue till Bose meets the protesters at the rallying point outside the Raj Bhavan.
The three-person TMC team, according to Banerjee, will include Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, and state Panchayat Minister Pradip Mazumdar.
On Thursday, the TMC national general secretary began the sit-in protest after a sizable crowd of party members and top leaders marched to the historic British-era structure to express their displeasure over the alleged withholding by the Center of West Bengal's MGNREGA dues.
Along with hundreds of party members, he stayed at the protest site for the previous two nights and had talks with them.
In order to assess the extent of the flooding there, the governor is in north Bengal.
