Trinamul Congress District General Secretary and Public Prosecutor Arrested Under POCSO Charges
Allegations of Child Molestation Lead to Arrest of Prominent Trinamul Leader
The Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act led to the arrest of the public prosecutor of the Gangarampur subdivisional court in South Dinajpur on Saturday night.
In addition to being the district general secretary of the Trinamul Congress, Pratul Maitra is the public prosecutor.
According to sources, a district resident reported to the police on Saturday, claiming Maitra had molested his little daughter sexually.
According to Chinmay Mittal, the superintendent of police in South Dinajpur, a court remanded the accused to police detention for a period of two days on Sunday.
Trinamul district vice-president Subhash Chaki stated: "It is regrettable that a government lawyer has become the target of such an accusation. We are unable to influence the law; it will unfold in its own way.
Arrest for an accident
In relation to a single-person accident that occurred on Siliguri's Sevoke Road on Thursday, a resident was taken into custody on Saturday.
In Siliguri, the Bhaktinagar police detained Dipu Giri. According to police sources, Giri was operating the SUV that had flipped over on Sevoke Road, resulting in one fatality and other injuries.
Mukesh Mittal, a 45-year-old city resident of Punjabipara, was the dead.
Two other persons who were in the car are being sought for by the police.
