Trinamul Congress Leader Threatens Resignation if Party Fails to Win Cooch Behar Lok Sabha Seat

According to reports, Trinamul Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee threatened to resign from their positions on Tuesday if the party's nominee failed to win the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat.

During a meeting with members of the party's Cooch Behar district election committee and other units here, the Diamond Harbour MP gave the warning. The district Trinamul office in New Town served as the venue for the gathering.

Abhishek made his intentions known to the group throughout the two hours of the meeting, which was attended by around sixty Trinamul leaders.

"We must prevail in the Cooch Behar election. Many of us, including ministers and other district leaders, would lose our jobs if we don't do that, a district Trinamul leader who was present at the meeting reported Abhishek as saying.

In the 2019 general election, Nisith Pramanik of the BJP has taken the seat in Cooch Behar for the Lok Sabha. Paresh Chandra Adhikari of Trinamul lost to him by a margin of 54,231 votes.

The minister of development for north Bengal and a member of Trinamul's assembly, Udayan Guha, is fiercely opposed to the current BJP MP. Both of them got into a fight on March 19, and there has just been an occurrence similar to this in Ghughumari in Cooch Behar. Abhishek requested that the minister exercise self control and remain composed at today's meeting, according to a Trinamul source.

Tuesday at about 1:00 pm, the national general secretary of Trinamul touched down by helicopter on the Rasmela Ground in Cooch Behar. He proceeded directly to the Madan Mohan Temple, where he performed puja and prayers. On the grounds of the Madan Mohan Temple, Abhishek also offered prayers and did puja at the Kali and Ma Bhawani temples.

After interacting with the people assembled, Abhishek departed the temple complex and headed into New Town.

Abhishek has delegated more authority to three longstanding district leaders—Rabindranath Ghosh, Binoy Krishna Barman of Mathabhanga, and Hiten Barman of Shitalkuthi—according to a source in Trinamul.

Another seasoned district Trinamul leader, Sir Humayun Kabir, was present at the meeting as well. He served as a member of the Cooch Behar zilla parishad and as the previous head of the Dinhata 2 block committee in Trinamul. Kabir was also a member of the district Trinamul election committee, according to a source.

Following the meeting, Ghosh, a seasoned Trinamul politician and the chairman of the Cooch Behar municipality, said, "We have to stay united and we will win the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat this time."
