Trinamul worker kills elderly BJP supporter in Gaighata, mob vandalizes politician's home

The home of a Trinamul politician in Gaighata, North 24-Parganas, was vandalized by irate locals on Thursday morning after a Trinamul worker allegedly killed an elderly BJP supporter who was protesting the former's intoxicated misbehavior on Wednesday night.

The Trinamul worker and key suspect Samir Mullick, the party's Bongaon organizational district committee president, and Gaighata panchayat samiti member Nirupam Roy were all targeted by the mob, which proved difficult for police to disperse.

The locals accused Nirupam of favoring Samir, who was charged with killing Kanan Roy, a 62-year-old BJP devotee.

Only until Samir was taken into custody by the police did the situation stabilize. However, the neighborhood remained heated because several people insisted Nirupam be detained as well.

According to the police and local reports, Samir was intoxicated on Wednesday night when he verbally tormented his BJP-supporting neighbors in Manikhira Deshpara, Gaighata.

Jayanta Roy, a BJP member, and his mother Kanan objected. According to accounts, this resulted in a fight between Jayanta and Samir in front of Nirupam. Samir struck the mother and son on the heads with a bamboo stick. The mother died as a result of the blow.

Also assaulted was Jayanta's wife.

Initially taken by ambulance to Chandpara Rural Hospital, Kanan was then taken to Barasat State General Hospital, where she passed away.

"Samir attacked us, and Nirupam stood by him," stated Jayanta. He observed the assault but did nothing to stop Samir. Additionally, he is accountable for my mother's murder.

When irate locals vandalized Nirupam's home on Thursday and demanded his arrest, the police dispersed them by promising to investigate the claim.

Debdas Mondal, the district president of the BJP's Bongaon organization, said that Nirupam was responsible for the event. His intended victim was Jayanta, the deceased's son.

Nirupam denied the accusations, stating: "The killing is a result of a rivalry between two nearby families that has no connection to politics. However, other locals were persuaded to attack my house by the BJP. I called the police and pleaded with them to arbitrarily detain alleged party worker Samir Mullick. I am not related to him.

Joyeeta Bose, the district police chief for Bongaon, declared: "We have taken into custody the primary suspect. The other accusations are being investigated.
