3 people shot in Bankura, murder suspect on the run

On Tuesday afternoon near Bankura town, three people—including a Trinamul trade union leader from East Burdwan—in a car with a murder suspect released on bail from the Bankura district correctional home were shot by two bike-borne assailants. The shooting occurred on a busy highway.

The attackers, according to the police, were following the vehicle as it traveled to East Burdwan's Katwa when they stopped it on NH60 near Keshiyakol at approximately 1pm.

Although the police reported that there were six people in the vehicle, the driver, Rabiul Sheikh, and one of the wounded passengers, Nur Mohammed Sah, claimed that only five people—the driver and four passengers, including murder suspect Saddam Sheikh—were really inside.

Saddam is running away after allegedly being hurt.

The wounded group, according to the police, traveled from East Burdwan to Bankura on Monday to pick up Saddam and bring him home to Katwa.

In 2015, according to the police, Saddam was arrested on suspicion of murder and theft. He was formerly imprisoned at Katwa but was then sent to Bankura Prison. On Monday, he received bail, according to a Bankura police officer.

The thugs shot at least six bullets from two revolvers, according to an eyewitness. "They then took off on their motorbikes in the direction of Bankura town. We observed three people get hurt behind the driver's seat," he claimed.

Injured Jiabul Haque, 38, Nur, 37, both from Galsi in East Burdwan, Gobinda Mondal, 46, from Gangajal Ghanti in Bankura, and the driver got out of the vehicle when the thugs ran away, and they all sheltered behind a nearby wall until the police arrived.

The wounded were taken by police to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital right away. The victims were stable by nightfall, according to the doctor, and the bullets had been taken out.

"When the shooting had place, the three were traveling back with Saddam and were hit by bullets. But when our police squad arrived, Saddam was nowhere to be found. We are trying to find him. We have not yet been able to determine the incident's motivation. However, Vaibhav Tiwari, the superintendent of police for Bankura, stated, "We are looking at all possibilities.

A general secretary of the INTTUC in East Burdwan's Galsi, Nur claimed that the assault had "nothing to do with politics" despite his position.
