AIIMS Bhubaneswar Launches Innovative Low Vision Clinic to Empower Patients

To brighten the lives of patients who have nearly given up owing to severe visual impairments, the department of ophthalmology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar has opened a "low vision clinic."

"In a first-of-its-kind endeavor within any government institution in Odisha, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has collaborated with Dr RP Centre, AIIMS Delhi, and Cristoffel Blinden Mission (CBM), Germany, to establish this clinic," said Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, executive director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, to officially open the groundbreaking initiative. The clinic promises to provide eye rehabilitation treatments to individuals in need on a regular basis, changing lives and promoting a sense of empowerment in the process.

In addition to highlighting the value of routine patient follow-up and thanking AIIMS Delhi for their assistance with the "Roshini" initiative, Dr. Biswas also revealed training materials designed to equip Asha employees and volunteers with fundamental understanding about eye care.

A unique set of patients, including some who are socially blind and those with extremely low vision from glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, retinal disorders, and other blinding conditions, will benefit from the vision clinics.
