Arvind Kejriwal to Hold High-Level Meeting to Address Delhi's Air Pollution Crisis

New Delhi, November 6, 2023: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to convene a high-level conference with representatives from many ministries on Monday to examine and deliberate over the issue, given the increasing levels of air pollution in Delhi.

Gopal Rai, the environment minister, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev, and other high-ranking representatives of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Delhi Traffic Police would be present at the meeting.

The following actions to reduce city air pollution are anticipated to be the main topics of discussion during the meeting:

  • stepping up the campaign to reduce dust pollution coming from roadways and building sites
  • spraying water over dusty and road surfaces
  • prohibiting the burning of leaves and trash
  • encouraging people to carpool and use public transportation
  • collaborating with surrounding states to minimize external air pollution
  • The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), a collection of actions carried out in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in accordance with the intensity of air pollution, will also be reviewed at the conference.

Due to a number of causes, including adverse weather, stubble burning in other states, and vehicle emissions, Delhi has had poor air quality in recent days. On Sunday, the city's air quality index (AQI) was 454, falling into the "severe" range.

It is anticipated that a comprehensive strategy to solve Delhi's air pollution issue would be developed from the high-level conference on Monday. It's also possible that the administration may unveil some fresh initiatives to lower the city's air pollution.
