Truck owner receives threatening letter and phone call
The suspected Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO), a banned terrorist organization, allegedly sent a letter and made a phone call to a transporter in Cooch Behar, asking for Rs 10 lakh.
Binoy Das, a truck owner and operator in Bengal and Assam, lodged a complaint at the district's Boxirhat police station on Thursday. Das lives in the Cooch Behar village of Najiran-Deotikhata, which is part of the Tufanganj-II block.
According to sources, he received a "letter" from the group via WhatsApp on October 14 demanding payment.
"I didn't open the message to see the letter because I was busy." I received a call on October 18 from an unidentified number. Das stated, "I was told that I had a letter and that they will kill me and my family if I don't pay the money within three days.
He added that the letterhead of the missive bore the name Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KN).
"The individual who called me stated I would have to pay up within three days, but the letter asked me to pay within ten," Das continued.
He claimed that the call and WhatsApp numbers were different.
Following the call, Das reported the letter and the call to the police at the Jorai police outpost, which is part of the Boxirhat police station.
Das also reported something to the authorities.
The district police head, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, confirmed receipt of the report.
"We are attempting to ascertain who wrote Das the letter. He stated, "Our officers are attempting to obtain information on the phone number that was used to place the call.
