Ben Stokes to Have Knee Surgery After World Cup

Following the World Cup, Ben Stokes, an all-rounder for England, will have surgery on his troublesome knee, he announced on Friday.

Due to the injury, Stokes, 32, has not been regularly bowling but anticipates recovering in time for the five-Test tour of India that starts on January 25 of the following year.

"I'll be alright for the Indian Test series. However, I will be undergoing surgery following the World Cup, England Test captain Ben Stokes confirmed to reporters prior to Saturday's World Cup match in Ahmedabad against Australia.

It appears to be much longer than it actually is when you're not bowling. But it's been a "will I, won't I?" situation for the past eighteen months.

"It's probably the first time I've made it obvious that I won't be bowling since I had this knee problem."

With just one victory in six games, England, the defending champions, are bottom of the standings after a disastrous World Cup campaign in India.

"There's no need to sugarcoat the fact that our World Cup was a complete disaster—it is the reality.

Stokes remarked, "But we know we've got a lot to play for these last three games."

Walking out onto the field each time is a very special occasion and something that we value very highly. "I think the biggest thing that we've got to play for is obviously the pride of what it is to put the Three Lions on your chest."

In response to a question about why England had underperformed, Stokes said that aside from their inability to exert control over games, the team was unable to pinpoint the exact cause.
