Bihar Museum and IGNCA sign MoU to preserve artifacts and antiques

In order to preserve artifacts and antiques, Bihar and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

In the presence of Bihar Museum director-general Anjani Kumar Singh, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by IGNCA dean Pratapanand Jha and Bihar Museum deputy director Sunil Kumar Jha.

Speaking at the event, Singh—who also serves as chief minister Nitish Kumar's advisor—stated that every museum needs a conservation lab in order to preserve its artifacts and provide maintenance and repair as required.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to treat the chosen artifacts on exhibit at the Patna Museum when a conservation lab has been established there. After then, the other antiquities will be handled, according to Singh.

For this reason, Bihar has contacted a number of central organizations, such as the IGNCA, the National Museum, and the Archaeological Survey of India.

The project would be finished in three years by the IGNCA, and a budget of Rs 12.75 crore has been suggested.

In the future, the conservation lab will meet worldwide standards and serve other museums and their artifacts.

The two museums are the Bihar Museum and the Patna Museum.

The Bihar Museum was established in 2015, but the Patna Museum has been around for over a century.
