BJP Aims for Clean Sweep in Madhya Pradesh as Shivraj Singh Chouhan Leads Charge

According to former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is running for the Vidisha seat in the next general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh.

Chouhan's name was among the leaders' on the initial list of 195 candidates released on Saturday by the BJP in Delhi. The names of twenty-four MP candidates were released by the party.

"The people of Madhya Pradesh have a deep affection for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All 29 seats will be won by the BJP. At his home on Saturday night, Chouhan assured reporters, "We will all contest together." He also used the slogan, "Fir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar, Abki Baar 400 Paar."

He claimed that in order to guarantee election success, BJP heavyweights, such as MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state party president VD Sharma, had held talks.

"As a party worker, I will work with full strength," he said.

Before taking over as chief minister in 2005, Chouhan served five years as the well-known Vidisha Lok Sabha member.

In the past, BJP luminaries such as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1991), Sushma Swaraj (2009, 2014), and newspaper publisher Ramnath Goenka (1971) have represented the seat.

Chouhan was the chief minister when he resigned from his position in the Vidisha Lok Sabha, which he had last won in 2004.

He now serves as the MLA for the Budhni seat, which is part of the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency.

Ramakant Bhargava of the BJP is the current MP for Vidisha.

Chouhan won the Budhni seat in the state assembly elections that took place in November 2023 by an unprecedented margin of 1.05 lakh votes.

The Congress was only able to secure the seat of Chhindwara in the 2019 general elections, while the BJP secured 28 out of 29 seats in MP.
