BJP Officials Arrested with Cash Ahead of Elections in Jalpaiguri

On Saturday night, Jalpaiguri police arrested two BJP officials and took more over Rs 9 lakh in cash.

According to the authorities, the leaders were unable to provide the necessary paperwork to confirm the money's origins. They did not provide us with any legitimate documentation, thus the cash was taken in accordance with Section 102 of the CrPC. The investigation has begun, an officer said.

Any police officer may confiscate property that is discovered in circumstances that raise the possibility of an offense or that is claimed to have been stolen under Section 102 of the CrPC.

According to sources, the police put up a roadblock ahead of the elections in the Malbazar Assembly seat, near Kranti Masjid, and on Saturday night they apprehended a vehicle. On April 19, Jalpaiguri will cast its first round of ballots.

The BJP leader in Malbazar, Rakesh Nandi, was carrying Rs 7.75 lakh in cash in the vehicle.

When questioned, Nandi said that the funds would be used for election-related activities and that he had received them from Dipa Banik, the district head of the BJP's Mahila Morcha in Jalpaiguri.

When the police searched Banik's car based on the information he provided, they discovered Rs 1.30 lakh in cash. It was also taken hold of.

The BJP's district general secretary, Shyam Prasad, said that they are attempting to get information. Before making any comments on the matter, we must have additional information, he said.

However, Trinamul has said that the BJP is attempting to misappropriate funds in order to win over voters.

With just five days to the election and the MCC in effect in Jalpaiguri, what are the local leaders of @BJP4Bengal doing? They were apprehended with a large amount of cash—Rs. 9.5 lakhs—carrying no paperwork! I simply wanted to let you know that you cannot buy away people's mandates, Bangla-Birodhi (anti-Bengal) BJP. Your bishorjon, or demise, from Bengal is imminent on June 4th, according to a post on Trinamul's official X account.
