BJP's Anupam Hazra Meets Rebel Party Members in Kalna, Promises to Raise Their Concerns with National President

Anupam Hazra, the national general secretary of the BJP, met with more than five hundred longtime members of the party on Monday in Kalna, East Burdwan. These members felt that the party's goal of 35 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would remain a pipe dream if the leadership continued to ignore them.

"Thousands of party members and leaders who had organizational authority were marginalized and denied access to any organizational positions. These individuals have not been included in the system by a group of state leaders, particularly two or three who are in charge of the party in Bengal. I saw a great deal of these underprivileged or neglected party workers in Kalna today in order to support them and prevent them from joining the Trinamul Congress. The situation is the same in other areas, and I'll keep reorganizing these backers," Hazra said.

Hazra's attempt to court rebel party members stands in stark contrast to the Bengal leadership's approach during the period when the state committee of the party suspended a number of rebel party members for staging protests in front of the BJP's Calcutta state headquarters over the marginalization of three senior party leaders.

On October 12, more than a hundred former members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a demonstration in front of the party's state headquarters, located at 6, Murlidhar Lane. They claimed that certain members of the party's senior leadership had excluded individuals who were instrumental in the party's victory of 18 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal in 2019.

Following the agitation, reporters were informed by former state president Dilip Ghosh that demonstrations were starting because some party officials were not paying attention to party members.

Ghosh had said, "Leaders should listen to all," after many hours of unrest at the BJP headquarters.

Hazra nearly repeated Ghosh on Monday.

"I have been and will continue to report to our national president J.P. Nadda about the fury of the oppressed people at state party offices and other locations. We need to know why party employees who are close to top officials are given preference over those who are well-known for having strong organizational credentials. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, agitations are not helpful for the party. The goal of obtaining 35 seats would remain a pipe dream if state leaders do not prioritize the thousands of underprivileged party leaders and workers, Hazra said.

Later, Hazra tagged national president J.P. Nadda in a Facebook post stating that the sidelined party workers showed their power on Monday in Kalna.
