BJP’s Strategic Win in Raiganj and Maldaha Uttar Amidst TMC’s South Bengal Sweep

The Trinamool Congress has had to start again in order to come up with strategies for halting the decline of its minority support base after losing in Raiganj and Maldaha, Uttar Pradesh.

The election results for the two sectors indicate that Muslim votes were split between the Congress and Trinamool, which aided the BJP in gaining the seats.

"The minority population, which supported the party in every election, was the center of attention for the Trinamool rank and file, including the chief minister, during the campaign. However, Trinamool's strategy failed in Raiganj and Maldaha Uttar because the Congress nominated Muslim candidates, reducing the TMC's share of the vote, according to Raiganj political expert Debasish Biswas.

In Raiganj and Maldaha Uttar, the Grand Old Party fielded Ali Imran Ramz and Mostaque Alam, respectively.

Mamata Banerjee, the head of the Trinamool Party, lashed out at the Congress and the candidates running against her. "They are working with the BJP to suppress votes," she claimed.

On Tuesday, when the results were announced, Mamata was proven correct. In Assembly seats where Muslims predominate, the Congress earned leads, but the BJP emerged victorious in both constituencies.

In the Maldaha Uttar Assembly segments of Chanchal, Harishchandrapur, Malatipur, and Ratua, Alam received the most votes. He received 3.84 lakh votes overall and came in third.

With the support of his votes, BJP candidate Khagen Murmu was able to win the seat a second time by a margin over 75,000 votes.

Ramz had the most votes in Chakulia and 666 fewer than Trinamool in Goalpokhar when it came to assembly seats. The Congress received 2.63 lakh votes in total.

The BJP's Kartick Chandra Paul received 68,197 votes to win the Raiganj seat.

Maldaha Uttar and Raiganj have never been won by Trinamool.

However, Trinamool won five of the seven Assembly segments in the Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency in the 2021 Assembly elections. Two were won by the BJP. The two BJP MLAs then became Trinamool members.

Similar to this, the BJP won three Assembly seats in Maldaha, Uttar Pradesh, while Trinamool won four.

The party had chances in both Lok Sabha segments, according to the results of the Assembly election. Nonetheless, we are concerned about the distribution of minority votes following the announcement of the results yesterday (Tuesday). In order to avoid a repeat, we must mobilize our voter base in advance of 2026, said to a Trinamool official in Malda.

Mamata voiced her displeasure with the Congress's choice to field Muslim candidates in Maldaha Uttar and Raiganj once more on Tuesday.

"The Congress would have won both of the seats we had offered it. However, they made a different choice in the state. What was their gain in running from these seats? She enquired.
