Box office setback after Jawan and Gadar 2's success as new films fail to impress

The box office experienced a setback this week after riding high on Jawan and Gadar 2's success for more than a month as none of the new films, Mission Raniganj, Thank You for Coming, and Dono, made an impression on viewers, leading to poor opening-day revenues for all of them.

Mission Raniganj's impact is negligible.

The eagerly awaited rescue thriller movie starring superstar Akshay Kumar got off to a very unimpressive start. The Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, and Ravi Kishan-starring movie, which was directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, only made a pitiful Rs 2.85 crore nett on its first day of release.

The profits were considerably less than those of Akshay's previous film, OMG 2, which had opened to Rs 10.26 crore nett. Mission Raniganj, however, narrowly edged out Akshay's other movie of the year, Selfiee (Rs 2.50 crore nett).

A poor Day 1 collection is reported by Thank You for Coming.

The most recent film to be released starring Bhumi Pednekar had a dreadful opening weekend. Anil Kapoor, Kusha Kapila, Shehnaaz Gill, Shibani Bedi, Dolly Singh, Karan Kundra, and others helped promote the film, but it only managed to bring in a meager Rs 1.06 crore nett on the first day.

Dono does poorly at the box office.

The debut film Dono starring Sunny Deol's son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon's daughter Paloma struggled even more at the box office. Only Rs 35 lakh net was collected by the Thursday-released movie in the first two days of its theatrical run. Trade analysts, however, blamed the film's constrained theatrical run for the poor box office results. Avnish Barjatya, the son of director Sooraj Barjatya, is the director of the film Dono, which has been shown in fewer than 250 theaters nationwide.

The Vaccine War disappoints, but Fukrey 3 keeps the pace going

Vivek Agnihotri's The Vaccine War, which similarly underperformed at the box office after its September 28 release, continued the unfortunate pattern by earning only Rs 20 lakh net on Day 9. The movie has currently made a total of Rs 8.8 crore nett.

The lone bright spot has been Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's Fukrey 3, which opened on the same day and is still doing well in theaters, earning Rs 2.2 crore net on its ninth day there. The comedic caper's overall revenue in India is currently at Rs 68.32 crore nett. It stars Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Manjot Singh, and Richa Chadha.
