In the early hours of Friday morning, a section of an under-construction bridge fell in the Supaul district of Bihar, resulting in one fatality and nine injuries, according to officials.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was building the 10.2-kilometer bridge across the Koshi river between Bakaur in the Supaul district and Bheja in Madhubani.

PTI was informed by NHAI Regional Officer YB Singh that ten laborers were buried beneath the rubble following the mishap.

"Sadly, nine people were saved with only minor injuries, and one person passed away en route to the hospital. They are no longer in danger," he declared.

"Enough money is being set up for both the injured and the deceased victims. After being briefed, experts were asked to determine the cause of the accident and recommend any necessary corrective actions. To address the situation immediately, senior NHAI authorities have hurried to the scene," he continued.

According to him, the span between piers 153 and 154 of the bridge—which has 171 piers—collapsed.

The Road Construction portfolio's Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, announced that an investigation has been ordered and that individuals accountable for the tragedy will face consequences.

He stated, "It's a very tragic incident, and the government will make sure the victims' families get adequate compensation."

Sinha claimed to be in close communication with both the district administration and the NHAI.
