Cannes Film Festival Unveils Jury Panel Led by Greta Gerwig

The 77th Cannes Film Festival judging panel, led by Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig, includes French actress Eva Green, Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu, and actress Lily Gladstone from Killers of the Flower Moon.

Turkish screenwriter Ebru Ceylan, Lebanese director and screenwriter Nadine Labaki, Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, Italian actor Pierfrancisco Favino, Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu, and French actor-producer Omar Sy round out the jury panel, which was revealed by the organizers on Monday.

Gladstone's performance in Killers of the Flower Moon got her a nomination for best actress at the 96th Academy Awards. She is the youngest person on the panel, at 37.

Green is a well-known character in French film, and Kore-eda Hirokazu won the 2018 Palme d'Or for the film Shoplifters. Renowned French actor Omar Sy is well-known for his parts in Lupin and The Intouchables. Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan's wife, Ebru Ceylan, co-wrote the screenplay for their 2014 Palme d'Or winner, Winter Sleep.

22 films are in the festival's competition roster, including highly anticipated productions from Ali Abbasi (The Apprentice), Paolo Sorrentino (Parthenhope), Yorgos Lanthimos (Kinds of Kindness), and Francis Ford Coppola (Megalopolis). All We Imagine As Light, an Indian film directed by Payal Kapadia, has also left its distinction by being the first in more than thirty years to be chosen for the competition section.
