Borussia Dortmund defeated Paris St. Germain 1-0 in the second half thanks to a goal by Mats Hummels, and the visitors won 2-0 on the aggregate. Dortmund displayed remarkable poise to go to their third Champions League final.

Five minutes into the second half, Hummels headed home from a corner to bring the 1997 champion Germans into their first European club championship final since 2013.

They will play on June 1 at Wembley against either Real Madrid, the 14-time champions, or Bayern Munich, who square off at the Bernabeu on Wednesday following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

Kylian Mbappe, who is generally expected to depart the club at the end of the season, was not the same brilliant player that he usually is, and PSG hit the woodwork four times but failed to reach the net.

PSG, who were favorites to advance to their second final after finishing second in 2020, got off to a fast start. The hosts applied constant pressure, and Mbappe had their first opportunity with a half-volley in the seventh minute.

Mbappe had some room out wide and the opportunity to cut in and attack the Dortmund goal with Goncalo Ramos as the lone striker and Mbappe on the left flank.

But the guests remained calm and steadfast. As their self-assurance increased, Julian Ryerson gave them their first chance, but his shot struck the side netting.

Dortmund had a better opportunity in the 35th minute when Gianluigi Donnarumma made an incredible stop to deny Karim Adeyemi after a quick counterattack and a terrible mistake by Mbappe.

The fact that the score was tied at the interval was fortunate for PSG.

Following the half, Luis Enrique's team picked up a gear when Warren Zaire Emery's attempt struck the outside of the post after Mbappe's had been deflected into his path by Ramos.

However, Dortmund were more efficient as Hummels doubled the German side's lead across the two games five minutes after the half with a header from a corner.

Nuno Mendes' 25-meter effort struck the post after Ramos's attempt on the turn went just over, and PSG responded quickly.

A second attempt by Mbappe was deflected onto the bar, and Vitinha's strong shot struck the woodwork as well.

After the hour mark, Ousmane Dembele of PSG was a continuous threat, but like the rest of the club, the forward from France entered the game far too late against a team that maintained composure and deserved to be in the final.
